Bachelor of Science Degree

The Bachelor of Science in History degree offers the student the opportunity to integrate a broad base in science and mathematics and a specialized study in one area of science and technology with the History discipline. The B.S. degree offers a way for students to get both the analytical and writing skills that come from a History major and the technical proficiency that comes with coursework in science and engineering. This combination is very helpful in a wide variety of careers, including law, business, and public policy. This degree is particularly well suited for students transferring into History from a science of engineering major, as courses taken in the initial program can count toward the History degree.

A History B.S. major will take eight History courses, in addition to the two introductory courses in History required of all students in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.

The degree requires

  • The Sophomore Seminar (HI 300)
  • The Senior Seminar (HI 491)
  • Four courses in the major must be Advanced Electives (400-level classes).
  • Fifteen hours of science, engineering, and/or math courses as a concentration, worked out in consultation with your faculty advisor.

The B.S.degree plan allows 15 hours of free electives for a total of 120 credit hours to graduate.
